Successful Recovery Tips for Dental Implants Brookline

November 24, 2015

smiling woman happy with the dental implants brookline residents preferDental implants have become one of the most popular tooth replacement options because they are the only dental restoration that restores the root and crown (visible portion) of the tooth. Because dental implants replace the root structure, they are not reliant on surrounding teeth for support, and the implant posts provide necessary stimulus for bone and gum tissue retention. Innovations in dental implant techniques and technology have made them increasingly viable, and they now have a 98% success rate. When it comes to successful dental implant placement, your Boston Smile Center team works hard to provide the skill and quality materials necessary for a successful surgical procedure, but after the procedure, the success of implant placement is in your hands.

Maintain Your White Smile with Metal-free Fillings from Boston Smile Center

March 20, 2015

You do your best to maintain a healthy smile with your regular at-home hygiene routine that includes brushing twice every day and flossing at least once a day. And Dr. Alan Sasson and Dr. Ray Dempsey and the team at Boston Smile Center in Brookline, MA, do our best too, with the most comprehensive dental checkups. Nevertheless, there usually comes a time when we may need to repair tooth decay with a filling. For strength, durability and appearance, we use metal-free fillings to restore a tooth with a cavity.

Although the American Dental Association maintains that the mercury level in metal, or amalgam, fillings is safe, we’re not taking any chances with your health. So for fillings, we use composite resin and dental porcelain.

The Pros of Metal-free Fillings

The composite resin material that we use for fillings is matched to the color of your teeth. Amalgam fillings, on the other hand, are always dark and as such can mar the appearance of your teeth when you smile, laugh or talk. With a filling made of tooth-colored resin, you don’t need to worry about the filling showing at all.

Secondly, with a metal-free filling, our dentists can preserve more of the natural tooth structure. This is exactly the idea behind conservative dentistry—repair a tooth while preserving as much of the tooth as possible. Amalgam fillings necessitate reducing more of a tooth to accommodate the filling material. With composite resin material, a minimal amount of the tooth is removed.

Finally, for strength and protection, tooth-colored fillings made of composite resin can’t be beat. Composite fillings are bonded with adhesive to your tooth, protecting it against decay and also strengthening the tooth. Furthermore, composite fillings shield the tooth from bacteria, too. Once bonded, a composite filling won’t wear down or change shape, so bacteria and food particles cannot penetrate the tooth.

Renew Your Smile with Porcelain Veneers from Boston Smile Center

February 20, 2015

100047604When you see your smile in the mirror or in a picture, are you pleased? Or are there a few characteristics about your smile that you’d like to change? Maybe you’d like a whiter smile, or a smile with teeth that are well-shaped and not misaligned. If this is the case, then you would do well to consider porcelain veneers. Boston Smile Center in Brookline, MA, has dramatically improved the smiles of many people with porcelain veneers and we can do the same for you!

Porcelain veneers are thin layers of dental porcelain designed to correct and conceal the imperfections on your front teeth that mar your smile. Using his patented Ceramel® technique, Dr. Alan Sasson custom designs veneers that mimic the translucency, color, and shape of beautiful, natural teeth.

When you come to Boston Smile Center, Dr. Sasson will meet with you to discuss your smile goals and assess your dental health in order to address any concerns before beginning the porcelain veneers process. In some instances, Dr. Sasson may recommend teeth whitening before veneers, so that your natural teeth will be as white as your new veneers.

Porcelain Veneers in Two Visits

At your first appointment for porcelain veneers from Boston Smile Center, we’ll need to prep your teeth. This requires removing a minor amount of enamel from your front teeth so the veneers adhere well and lay flush with your other teeth. Because the veneers are bonded to the surface of the tooth instead of encompassing the entire tooth as with a crown, only a small amount of enamel is buffed away prior to veneer placement. In cases where gaps need to be closed, no buffing may be necessary.

While your custom designed veneers are fabricated, you’ll wear temporaries for a short time. Then, you’ll return to our office where Dr. Sasson will bond your permanent veneers and artfully trim and polish them to a perfect finish.

If you’d like to learn how porcelain veneers can give you a new smile, then call Boston Smile Center in Brookline, MA, to schedule a consultation. Our office also conveniently serves patients in the surrounding communities of Chelsea, Newton, Somerville, Boston and Cambridge.

Straight Teeth in No Time with Six Month Smiles® from Boston Smile Center

January 20, 2015

92589293If you’d like to have a smile with straight teeth, but don’t want to contend with traditional braces that require so much time, then Boston Smile Center in Brookline, MA, may have the solution for you. Six Month Smiles®, as the name implies, straightens teeth in about six months. Dr. Alan Sasson or Dr. Ray Dempsey would be happy to talk to you about your orthodontic options and whether or not Six Months Smiles is right for you.

The Six Month Smile Advantage

Obviously, having straight teeth in about six months is a clear advantage of Six Month Smiles. But there is another advantage that is equally clear. Actually, this advantage is literally clear. Six Month Smiles uses clear brackets and tooth-colored wires that are practically invisible. And because Six Months Smiles braces are designed to straighten the teeth that are just in your smile zone—smile in the mirror and you’ll see what we mean—they are much more comfortable and less irritating than traditional braces.

Six Month Smiles braces use less force than other braces, too, so you experience less discomfort, as well.  These braces use standard orthodontic mechanics, but because the emphasis is on the cosmetic appearance of your teeth rather than the position of your bite, the force required to move teeth is reduced.

Caring for Your Smile after Six Month Smiles

To maintain your straight smile, our dentists will want you to wear a retainer. You can wear a removable retainer or one that is bonded into place behind your teeth. And of course, be sure to continue your at-home hygiene routine of brushing and floss at least twice every day so your new straight smile is healthy and white, too!

If you would like to find out if Six Months Smiles is the right orthodontic option for you, schedule an appointment for a consultation with Boston Smile Center today. We serve patients in Brookline, MA, and the surrounding communities of Chelsea, Newton, Somerville, Boston and Cambridge.

Show Off Your Smile with Dental Implants from Boston Smile Center

December 23, 2014

184898853 (1)Missing teeth are more than just a matter of appearance. Just one missing tooth can hamper your ability to speak and to chew. The consequences, therefore, may degrade your self-confidence and impair your ability to eat a nutritious diet. Dental implants replace missing teeth in the most natural way possible. The dentists at the Boston Smile Center in Brookline, MA, will give you dental implants that restore your smile, your confidence and your overall health.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant not only looks like a live tooth, but with a “root” it even mimics the function and structure of a natural tooth. This root is actually a titanium post that is surgically embedded into the bone beneath the space of the missing tooth. As the implant and bone tissue fuse, the implant provides the added advantage of helping to prevent bone loss and maintain your facial features. After the implant is securely anchored within the bone (a process called osseointegration that usually takes between three to six months), Dr. Alan Sasson or Dr. Ray Dempsey will then secure your custom made crown to the post.

Actually, implants are often the solution for when you have more than one missing tooth, in that they are used to secure bridges or partials for multiple tooth replacements and can even be used to secure full upper and lower dentures. Your doctor will be able to determine what the best course of treatment for you is. So, whether you are missing one tooth or more, dental implants may provide the most natural and the most comfortable solution.
